I was a Resident Advisor in undergraduate school. I managed over 50 units and helped over 100 residents with challenges related to housing. Although I was assigned a quadrant of the on-campus student apartments, my role expanded to 7 on-campus residential communities.

The student demographic was diverse, each housing community caters to different student needs. I managed traditional students to non-traditional students who were returning after inspiration from their newborn grandchildren.

While learning to navigate the intricacies of people management, I learned dismissing opinions can increase frustration and empathy can lead to a quicker solution between opposing parties.

Neglecting maintenance requests can lead to further damage and unhappy residents, so making repairs is important for all parties involved

Policies are in place to prevent misunderstandings. Each person interprets information in a way that aligns with past experiences and although a message may be clear to one party, it can be confusing to another. It helps to take the time to be clear and write down all communication between parties in case someone forgets what was said.
